"Its 368 pages are right up-to-date with the latest developments in Australian motive power and provide an excellent reference to the bewildering array of types and sub-groupings now to be seen on our railways. The contents cover operating preserved steam locomotives ( a small proportion of the book) and mainline diesel and electric locomotives used on Australias former government railways, those which have passed to or been purchased by the post-government private operators, and the locomotives of the major private railways.... a handy reference guide to keep in the car when out savouring the current rail scene, as well as a ready source of information when confusion reigns at home.
